Today, many of us rely on GPS systems to get us from one place to another.  We tap the destination into our digital device and trust that the GPS will get us there as efficiently as possible, often taking into consideration construction, roadblocks and traffic.

In the world of physician recruitment, the medical staff development plan acts as a GPS, providing guidance on the number of new providers needed for each specialty.  When the demand/supply analysis is integrated with medical staff retirements, clinical advancements or competitor dynamics, the plan provides the most efficient road map to our recruitment destination.

This session will provide a high-level orientation to medical staff development planning.  Whether your physician recruitment role is with a hospital/health system or as an external resource, its important to understand how the medical staff development plan frames the annual recruitment agenda to determine the resources needed for success.  For those that are financially supporting private practice recruitment, the medical staff development is the legal justification for that assistance.

The entry of Generation X into the physician market in the late 90s corresponded with the explosive growth of the provider recruitment market.  Over time, recruiters have adapted their methods and sought to recruit and retain Millennials.  With the first wave of the Post-Millennials entering medical school next year, it could soon be time to adapt again.
